Sustainability

ENVIRONMENT

We are committed to protecting the natural environment we share, focusing on improving our environmental impact, decarbonising of operations, and improving our practises to adapt to climate change. There is a moral imperative for everyone to act regardless as to if they are governance, staff, customers, suppliers and the wider community.

At Westpack we proactively invest in training to support staff to constantly be environmentally minded in their daily activities. This has a massive scope for change within the organisation from reserving power to designing packing solutions which embody our environmental ethos.

We have key waste KPIs, with our case production waste falling under 2% and is 100% recyclable. We also work to the 5s and lean manufacturing protocols to ensure we maximise efficiencies and minimize our impact on resources.

Through governance we continue to make significant shifts in reducing our carbon footprint through fleet, energy and fuel. Enabling us to use 100% renewable energy, be 100% clean air zone compliant reducing our carbon footprint and contribute to carbon offsetting schemes.

In the wider community we are dedicated to supporting environmental rejuvenation. In Sheffield our site is on the banks of the river Don, being so close to this biodiverse area we are proud to be a member of the Sheffield Stewardship Partnership. Through environmental improvements, including habitat restoration and removing invasive species this ‘riverlutionary’ scheme maintains and enhances Sheffield’s rivers and wildlife.

Sustainability

LABOUR AND HUMAN RIGHTS

At Westpack we are committed to providing a positive improvement to the welfare of others, both within the organisation and in the wider community through investment, development and support.

Leading by example we ensure all permanent staff have access to a healthcare scheme which includes medical, legal and welfare support including access to a GP and private counselling. We also provide life insurance and a pension which benefits from a profit share scheme to support staff into retirement.

We are proud to ensure all staff are paid above the national living wage and enjoy annual leave which exceeds the statutory minimum.

At Westpack we aim to retain a skilled and diverse workforce and are committed to the education and development of staff, we understand that this is a long-term investment, and we strive to provide opportunities throughout the organisation.

Within the wider community we are committed to supporting local charities to ensure that we have a positive and lasting impact on the communities that we work in and the wider world, actively addressing inequality through our sponsorship.

As a critical link in the supply chain, we have the ability and understanding to share our ethos and impact others.  We are committed to fair value throughout the supply chain and beyond, to ensure others can also maintain their economic and social responsibilities. We have a robust supplier programme to work with suppliers in aligning goals and continuously seek to improve standards.

We are committed to ensuring all our procurement practises have sustainability at their core, having made significant steps in this with energy and fleet, becoming clean air zone compliant and increasing the number of electric cars. We also partner with likeminded suppliers who have enabled us to reduce our carbon footprint and support offsetting schemes worldwide.

At the core of our businesses ethos is to drive sustainability through innovation and design, enabling our customers to reach their environmental, sustainable and economic goals through reduced consumption and waste. As packaging is a key element to this we endeavour to be at the forefront and at the heart of our customers success and enable them to navigate and reduce their ERP responsibilities while achieving sustainability and wider social and economic targets.
